Hapoel Fall Soccer – 5765 (2004)

Hapoel Fall Soccer – 5765 (2004) – Week 1

Week 1 Honors
The “Play Hard” Players of the Week: The Hapoel Soccer Club Awards Committee has selected numerous “Play Hard” players of the week. This includes:
From the Boys K’tana K’tana League’s Tiveria Red Lions… Daniel Ginsburg, Mickey Pines, and Isaac Dubrawsky.
From the Boys K’tana K’tana League’s Yerushalayim Blue Bears… Nathaniel Felber for playing tireless “grid-iron soccer” on both offense and defense and Avi Miller
for working hard and maintaining a positive attitude at all times.
From the Boys K’tana K’tana League’s Tsfat Black Cheetahs… a boy who happened to set two K’tana League Records: the most goals in a game and the most points in a game. A young man named… Nathan Schachter.
From the Girls K’tana League’s Yerushalayim Blue Te
ddy Bears… Aliza Ifrah.
The “Play Smart” Players of the Week: The Hapoel Soccer Club Awards Committee described the first “Play Smart” Player of the week with two words: Team Player. This is a returning player to the Hapoel League from last year and… he’s a talented young man who plays a gorgeous team game. This week’s Play Smart Player of the Week is… Jacob Mellman, Tsfat Black Cheetahs.
The second “Play Smart” Player of the week is actually a team. This team started their game short-handed and lost one of their top players due to an asthma attack during the game. As a consequence, their team had 4 players while their opponent had 7 players. With this said, this team never gave up and.. actually almost pulled out a win when they barely lost their game by the score of 4-3. This week’s Play Smart Player of the Week is a Team from the Girl’s K’tana League called… the Tiveria Red Lions (Sheindel Ifrah, Bashe Goodman, Falicia Elenberg, Adena Miller, and Danielle Galitzer).
The “Mensch” Player of the Week: After the Boy’s G’dola Game between the Tsfat Black Cheetahs and the Yerushalayim Blue Bears, the entire Awards Committee was talking about many players but primarily about one player. This young man scored 8 goals… which, by the way, is only one goal short of the two-year-old G’dola League Record of 9 goals that is held by Dovid Feldman. You would think that the Awards Committee was talking about his excellent performance on the field. And, most of the committee members were. But, the thing about this young man that everyone was talking about the most was… his humility, his positive attitude, and his class. The Hapoel Soccer Club is proud to be able to call this young man “one of our own”. Our Mensch Player of the Week in Week 1 is… Jesse Wilcox, Tsfat Black Cheetahs.

Hapoel Fall Soccer – 5765 (2004) – Week 2

The HSSSC Player Honors – Week Two

The “Play Hard” Players of the Week: The Hapoel Soccer Club Awards Committee has selected numerous “Play Hard” players of the week. This includes:
• A young man who played offense, defense, scored a goal this week and… has improved as an individual and a team player enormously from last year. From the Boys K’tana League’s Chevron Green Crocs… Avrohom Mond.
• We missed this young woman during the pre-season and the first game of the season. She showed up today and… was all over the field. This young woman from the Girl’s G’dola League is… Rachel Black.
• These two Play Hard players of the week play for the same team: the Yerushalayim Blue Bears in the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League. The key to their games yesterday were… effort. These two players are… Menachem Eizenstat and Shlomo Yaakov Danesh.
• This Play Hard player of the week scored 2 goals and hustled up and down the field throughout the game this week. From the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League’s Tiveria Red Lions… Daniel Ginsburg.

• The final Play Hard player of the week played outstandingly as part of the Teddy Bear’s Defense. From the Girls K’tana League’s Yerushalayim Blue Teddy Bears
… Avigail Mordechai.
The “Play Smart” Players of the Week:
• The Hapoel Soccer Club Awards Committee described the first “Play Smart” Player of the week with two words: goal scorer. And, you have to be using your “smarts” to score goals like this young man. He is from the Boys K’tana K’tana League’s Tsfat Black Cheetahs. He is a young man who happened to set two K’tana League Records last week. He is a young man who followed up his incredible performance last week with 4 goals this week. This young goal-scoring-machine and the Hapoel Play Smart Player of the Week is… Nathan Schachter. (As an FYI, with 4 games left in the regular season, Mr. Schachter needs 3 goals to break the K’tana League’s Most Points in a Regular Season (individual) record which is currently held by Max Frankl with 24 points on 10 goals and 4 assists which he set in 5763/2002.)
• The second “Play Smart” Player of the week scored 4 goals today and… clearly used his skills and his head. The second Play Smart Player of the Week is from the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League’s Tiveria Red Lions and his name is… Jeremy Kardon.
The “Mensch” Player of the Week:
• This week’s Hapoel Mensch Player of the Week is a young woman who holds two
Girl’s Hapoel League Records: the most goals in the regular season and the most points in the regular season. Last week, due to medical reasons, this young woman was forced to sit-out most of her soccer game. This week she returned to the field with an astounding effort. With her goal scoring prowess, you’d think she scored goal after goal. But, this is not the case. This young women was asked to play defense and she did an outstanding job. This young women can play offense, she can play defense, and, most importantly, she has the positive kind of attitude that every coach craves in his/her players. This week’s Mensch Player of the Week is from the Tiveria Red Lions and her name is… Bashe Goodman.

From the Boys G’dola League’s Yerushalayim Blue Bears, this young man is… Ze’ev Katz.
• This is not the first time that this young man won a Play Hard award this season but… he did it again. he just played his heart out. • This Play Hard player of the week scored 2 goals and just hustled endlessly. From the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League’s Tiveria Red Lions… Jeremy Kardon.
• The final Play Hard player of the week is actually two different teams. Both teams just simply never gave up they worked until the very last minute of the game and were rewarded for their hard work with a last minute goal to tie their games. These hard-working teams are from the Boy’s K’tana League and the Girls K’tana League and they are the… Chevron Green Crocs and the Yerushalayim Blue Teddy Bears

The “Play Smart” Players of the Week:
• The Hapoel Soccer Club Awards Committee has watched this player develop over the course of the season and today, she just played very well. She worked hard and was impressive on many levels but the most impressive thing about her play today was her “smartness”. Her ability to support her teammates both on offense and on defense was a pleasure to watch. This first Hapoel Play Smart Player of the Week plays on the Hapoel Girls G’dola Team and her name is… Chana Edinger.
• The second “Play Smart” Player of the week scored his first goal of the season today. Then he scored his second. And then he scored his third. A fantastic game for this young man. The “Mensch” Player of the Week:
• This week’s first Hapoel Mensch Player of the Week is a young man who, along with his teammates, have been working hard all season, yet… he hadn’t scored a goal and his team hadn’t won a game. Despite he and his teammates not having immediate success, they persisted. They never quit. They never “got down”. And, today, this young man had three goals and his team had their first win. A fantastic day for this young man and this team. A Mensch Player of the Week honorable mention goes to the Boys K’tana K’tana League’s Chevron Green Crocs. And, this week’s first Mensch Player of the Week from the Boys K’tana K’tana League’s Chevron Green Crocs goes to… Binyamin Edelstein .

Chatzi League Record for the most goals in the regular season. This week’s second Mensch Player of the Week is from the Boys K’tana League’s Tsfat Black Cheetahs and his name is… Yoshi Tanenbaum.
• What makes this final Hapoel Mensch Player of the Week is two-fold. One, this young man plays some gorgeous soccer. He is truly a pleasure to watch. And, two, there may be no other player in the league who is more supportive and encouraging of his teammates. This is truly a special young man and truly a big, big mensch. This week’s second Mensch Player of the Week is from the Boys G’dola Yerushalayim Blue Bears and his name is… Ari Wilcox.

Hapoel Fall Soccer – 5765 (2004) – Week 4

The HSSSC Player Honors – Week Four

The Hapoel Soccer Club Awards Committee has selected numerous Players of the Week this week. This includes:

The “Play Hard” Players of the Week:
• One scored the first goal, one assisted on the second goal, and one scored the second goal. For leading the Cheetahs to a 2-1 win over the Blue Teddy Bears, from the Girl’s K’tana League’s Tsfat Black Cheetahs… the Baars Sisters (Ariella and Bracha) and Bruria Hammer-Bleich.
• This young man has improved enormously over the course of the season and, as quoted by a fan at the game, “really got into the mix”. He worked very hard today and was one of the keys to the the K’tana K’tana League Black Cheetahs win today. This young man is from the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League and plays for the Tsfat Black Cheetahs and his name is… Sachy Cohen.
• I think this young woman, thus far, has won an award every game this season. And, this week is no exception. Despite a loss to the Green Crocs, this young woman from the K’tana Girl’s League worked extremely hard. This young woman plays for the Tiveria Red Lions and her name is… Bashe Goodman.
• There may not have been anybody who worked harder than this young man today. A young man with a great future within soccer and within the Hapoel Club. This Play Hard player of the week is from the Boys K’tana K’tana League’s Chevron Green Crocs and his name is… Jacob Black.
• This young man played goalie and… played very hard and played very well. An impressive outing for this young man. This Play Hard Player of the Week plays for the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League and the Yerushalayim Blue Bears and his name is… Avi Warshawsky.
• The last Play Hard Player of the Week is no stranger to playing games with a 100% effort and today was no exception. This Play Hard Player of the Week plays for the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League and the Tiveria Red Lions and his name is… Jeremy Kardon.

The “Play Smart” Players of the Week:
• This young man made numerous gorgeous passes during the course of his game. He played hard but, above all, he played smart. For his gorgeous passing game today, the first Play Smart Player of the Week is from the K’tana K’tana Boy’s League, plays for the Tsfat Black Cheetahs, and his name is… Feivel Cohen.
• This young man plays goalie and posted a shut-out today. He played hard, he played well, and… he really played very smart. For a great effort and a very “smart game” today, this Play Smart Player of the Week plays for the Chevron Green Crocs in the Boys K’tana League and his name is… Yoni Hawk.

The “Mensch” Players of the Week:
• Two young women showed up for their game and… they were the only two from their team who showed up for their game. None the less, they played. One played defense while the other went forward and then the former would go forward while the latter would play defense. And, unbelievably, at the conclusion of the game… they won. For their hard work, for their smart play, and, above all, for their menschlikite by showing up and giving their 100%, this week’s first Hapoel Mensch Players of the Week are from the Chevron Green Crocs and they are… Laina Miller and Ahuva Wakschlag.
• Often the Mensch Player of the Week does something super-impressive or dramatic. Not in this case. This young man is earning this Mensch Player of the Week in a much more subtle way. According to the Hapoel Committee, this young man “played hard and played effectively.” Nothing super-impressive and nothing dramatic. He merely did his job and did it exceptionally. And, for this, this young man is winning a Mensch Player of the Week Award. This week’s Mensch Player of the Week is from the Boys G’dola League’s Tsfat Black Cheetahs and his name is… Isaac Gould.
• This final Hapoel Mensch Player of the Week was one of the founding players of the Hapoel League. This young man was also one of the critical pieces of the Netanya Orange Hawks that dominated the Hapoel League for the past two seasons. This young man loves to Play Hard, loves to Play Smart, and is consistently a Mensch. But, his menschlikite has never been more obvious than this season. Sometimes it’s hard to be a Mensch when your team is winning and you’re scoring lots of goals. And, sometimes, it’s hard to be a Mensch when your team isn’t winning and you aren’t scoring lots of goals. This young man has proven that he can be a Mensch in any circumstance. Even when his team was down 7-0 today, he continued to stay positive, work for his teammates, and continued to give 100%. The Hapoel Committee is sincerely proud to be able to call this young man a player within the Hapoel Soccer Club. This week’s final Mensch Player of the Week is from the Boys K’tana Tiveria Red Lions and his name is… Yaakov Singer.

Hapoel Fall Soccer – 5765 (2004) – Week 5

The HSSSC Player Honors – Week Five

The Hapoel Soccer Club Awards Committee has selected numerous Players of the Week this week. This includes:

The “Play Hard” Players of the Week:
• For a two goal effort against the Boy’s G’dola Tsfat Black Cheetahs, the first Play Hard Player of the Week is… Yisroel Teitelbaum.
• For a Five goal effort against the Girl’s K’tana Chevron Green Crocs plus the breaking of four Girls League Records, the second Play Hard Player of the Week is… Bruria Hammer-Bleich.
• All from the Girl’s K’tana Tiveria Red Lions, three girls played exceptionally well and exceptionally hard today. Our third, fourth, and fifth Play Hard Players of the Week are… Sarah Miriam Sukol, Danielle Galitzer, and Tzviya Melman.
• These two players are brothers and they play for the Chevron Green Crocs in the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League. They both consistently give 100% and they both are a pleasure to watch. The older brother had a goal today and hit the post twice while the younger brother had an assist and anchors the Crocs defense. The sixth and seventh Play Hard Players of the Week are… Binyamin and Yehuda Edelstein.
• Two Players from the K’tana League Black Cheetahs vs. Green Crocs game were singled out as playing particularly well and particularly hard by the Hapoel Awards Committee. These two Play Hard Players of the Week are… Aaron Komarow and Naftali Schwartz.
• The last two Play Hard Players of the Week play for the Tsfat Black Cheetahs in the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League. Besides being two of the favorite players within the league, the Hapoel Awards Committee has pointed out these two young men as two of the most improved players in the league. These two players are having great seasons and their names are… Yoni Ferneau and Jonathan Kreisler.

The “Play Smart” Players of the Week:
• Two young men in the Boy’s G’dola Tiveria Red Lions vs. the Yerushalayim Blue Bears game were singled out by the Hapoel Awards Committee for playing exceptionally smart. They both played hard, but what defined their effort today was how smart they played. They were consistently at the right place at the right time to save goals from scoring, kick the clearing ball, and to hit the perfect pass. These two young men are… Menachem Shem Tov (Tiveria) and Avraham David Sanders (Yerushalayim).
• This young man hustles every week, plays smart every week, and… seems to get a goal every week. And, this week was no exception. With merely seconds left in the Boy’s K’tana Chevron Green Crocs vs. the Tsfat Black Cheetahs soccer game, this young man pounded the ball into the net to tie the score at 2-2. The Hapoel Awards Committee was quoted as saying that this young man “just keeps going”. A fantastic effort for this young man. For a great effort and a very “smart game” today, the Play Smart Player of the Week of the Boy’s K’tana Chevron Green Crocs is… Jesse Zweben.

The “Mensch” Players of the Week:
• Numerous players and teams demonstrated what big mensches they are during today’s games. The Tiveria Red Lions of the Boy’s K’tana League were beat soundly last week and came back this week and played their hearts out and won 2-0. The Yerushalayim Blue Bears from the Boy’s G’dola League were playing one-man-short and missing one of their top-players and they still played with extreme determination and, except for a game winning goal with two minutes remaining in the match, almost left the game with a tie. Anyone who saw this game would agree, the Yerushalayim Blue Bears showed extreme menschlikite. While these two squads showed something special today, there are two other teams that showed extreme menschlikite today and, quite frankly, have shown this menschlikite all season. These teams have, thus far this season, not won a game. They’ve scored goals and they play beautiful soccer. They just haven’t won, yet. Of course it is usuallly more enjoyable to win than to lose, but these two teams have not let their temporary poor mazel in the winning category “get them down”. They give 100% every game, they maintain a positive attitude for every game, and they continue to enjoy themselves every game. These are two very special teams. Everyone can learn a lesson in menschlikite from these young men. The HSSSC Player Honors – Week Six

Week 6 Honors
The Hapoel Soccer Club Awards Committee has selected numerous Players of the Week this week. This includes:

The “Play Hard” Players of the Week:
• For great efforts and for being two key contributors to the G’dola Boy Green Slime’s victory over the Blue Bears, the first two Hapoel Play Hard Players of the Week are… Izzy Kates and Ami Ifrah.
• For great efforts from three boys on the Boy’s K’tana Tiveria Red Lions that defeated the undefeated Tsfat Black Cheetahs… Yaakov Singer, goalkeeper Moshe Dovolsky, and the goal scorer in the 1-0 victory Avi Pines.
• Two players from the K’tana Boys Chevron Green Crocs played particularly hard… Sam Hofman and Rafi Singer.
• One player for the Tsfat Black Cheetahs is not the biggest player in the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League but… he doesn’t seem to know this. Though often out-sized, he’s never out-hustled. This Play Hard Player of the Week is… Sachy Cohen.
• Two Players from the K’tana K’tana League Tiveria Red Lions were singled out as playing particularly well and particularly hard by the Hapoel Awards Committee. These two Play Hard Players of the Week are… Daniel Ginsburg (at defense) and Isaac Dubrawsky (1 Goal and 1 Assist today).
• Two players in the Girl’s K’tana League also played this week for the Girl’s G’dola League Travel Team. Both players played beautifully for the Hapoel S.C. Purple Panthers on Tuesday and both players also played beautifully today. These two Play Hard Players of the Week are… Sheindel Ifrah (Tiveria Red Lions, Scored the teams goal to earn a 1-1 tie) and Kayla Cohen (Yerushalayim Blue Teddy Bears, Scored both goals for the Teddy Bears 2-1 win and 1 goal in the G’dola League game for her team’s 3-0 win).
• This player, like every week, was impenetrable on defense. And, like every week, she played very hard. This player for the Girl’s K’tana Tsfat Black Cheetahs is… Sarah McNally.
• He finished the regular season in the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League tied for leading assister and just had a great season playing for the Tsfat Black Cheetahs. This player is… Gil Melkin.
• This may be a Hapoel Soccer Club first. We have an award for a player who didn’t play! She is a top goalie for the Yerushalayim Teddy Bears and, due to illness, today she didn’t play. She was greatly missed. And, the Hapoel Awards Committee is giving a Play Hard Award to this girl as a sign of how much she was missed today. This player and goalie is… Naomi Schachter.

The “Play Smart” Players of the Week:
•For playing great defense and, more importantly, some really smart defense, this Play Smart Award goes to a defender for the K’tana Girl’s Yerushalayim Blue Teddy Bears named… Hadasah Raskas.
•We only have one Play Smart Award for this week and this young man played very smart for the Tiveria Red Lions in the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League. He played some superb defense and some smart defense. This young man is… Dovid Levine.

The “Mensch” Players of the Week:
• The first Mensch Player of the Week ignited the crowd when he scored his goal today. This player has been a top defender in the Hapoel League for years and, today, he scored his first goal of the season. And, to make the goal even more special, this goal tied the game for the Tiveria Red Lions with the Tsfat Black Cheetahs. For his goal, for his effort week-in-and-week-out, for his positive attitude, and, above all, for his menschlikite, the first Mensch Player of the Week is… Ari Byer, Tiveria Red Lions.
• This young man is the second leading scorer in the Boy’s G’dola League. He consistently plays hard, consistently plays smart, and is consistently a mensch. But, this week he did something particularly note-worthy. His team, the Chevron Green Slime were playing the Yerushalayim Blue Bears and the Chevron team was ready to give up. This young man took a leadership role and “set his team straight”. The team had a negative mind set (e.g., “we can never beat these guys. They’re too good.”) and this young man refused to give in to this defeatist mind set. He said explicitly that they could win this game and he backed up his words with a 100% effort. He scored Chevron’s first goal and was personally responsible for the Blue Bears own goal. This young man did something special today and his name is… Noach Aryeh Schwartz (Chevron).
• Last week, the Hapoel Mensch Players of the Week were the Yerushalayim Blue Sharks from the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League and the Boy’s K’tana League. Though they hadn’t yet won a game this season, they show up every week and give 100% and… never give up. This week, their patience paid off. Both teams came away with solid victories. Both teams won due to a team effort and, for this reason, the Hapoel Mensch Players of the week are… from the Yerushalayim Blue Sharks in the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League (Avi Warshawsky, Yonason Lasdun, Nathaniel Felber, Menachem Eizenstat, Shlomo Yaakov Danesh, Daniel Zweben, Avi Miller, Max Elikan) and from the Yerushalayim Blue Sharks in the Boy’s K’tana League ( Naftali Ginsburg, Eli Bookstaber, Moshe Schorr, Avi Denicoff, Benjamin Taragin, Zvi Wallach, Dovid Nachman Fisher, Yaakov Edinger, and Meir Retter)

G’dola Girls Week Six
G’dola Girls vs. Beth T’filoh
T he G’dola Girls played Beth Tfiloh on Tuesday and… the girls were unbelievable. To the parents and fans who came to cheer on our girls, thank you. And, to the parents and fans that missed the game, you missed watching a team who epitomized “Play Hard, Play Smart, and Be a Mensch”.

The game summary with broad strokes were as follows: First let me say it was a big field. Even for a regulation sized soccer field, it was a big field. And, the girls made the transition from playing 6 vs. 6 players on a small field to 11 vs. 11 players on a big field beautifully. The girls out-shot and out-played the Beth Tfiloh team but still found themselves down 2-0 late in the second half of the match. While many teams would quit after this second goal was scored, the girls used this second goal to inspire them to work harder. The girls were relentless. The goalies, the defense, the midfielders, the offense… the girls were relentless. And, with minutes remaining in the match, the girl’s hard-work paid off with a goal from Elisheva Swartz. With the score at 2-1, the girls continued to work even harder for the goal to tie the game and… time ran out. The final score was 2-1 for Beth T’filoh being the victor. With this said, what an effort by the Hapoel Soccer Club. Easily one of the best performances in Hapoel Soccer History. I can not wait to talk about this game at the awards banquet! J

A huge Yasher Koach to the Hapoel G’dola Girls Team: Rachel Black, Chana Edinger, Dina Siegel, Leah Meth, Toba Cohen, Miriam Klein, Tirtze Cohen, Zehava Levine, Rivka Malka Swartz, Atara Gedalowitz, Tova Baars, Sarah Bracha Cohen (did not play due to injury), Elisheva Swartz, Adina Wakschlag, Kayla Cohen, and Sheindel Ifrah.

The HSSSC Player Honors – Play-Off Semi-Finals

The Hapoel Soccer Club Awards Committee has selected numerous Players of the Week this week. This includes:

The “Play Hard” Players of the Week:
• Four players in the Girl’s K’tana League played so hard today. They only had four players playing for their team and… they played exceptionally hard. These four girls are from the Tiveria Red Lions and they are… Bashe Goodman, Tzviya Melman, Danielle Galitzer, and Adena Miller.
• For his consistent improvements throughout last season and this season and for his assist on his team’s lone goal today, from the Yerushalayim Blue Bears… Ze’ev Katz.
• This player plays for the Tiveria Red Lions in the Boy’s K’tana League. After leading 1-0, the Red Lions were scored on twice by the Green Crocs to all of a sudden be losing 2-1. This young man was disappointed about losing the lead that the Red Lions once had, but… he never quit. He played hard, very hard, until the final whistle. A young man who demonstrated today what it means to be a Play Hard Player of the Week in this league. And, this talented young man is… Noah Horn.
• This young man played some gorgeous defense today. This Play Hard Player of the Week plays for the Chevron Green Crocs in the Boy’s K’tana League and his name is… Sam Hofman.
• This player from the Boy’s K’tana League was described as having “some great moves” by the Hapoel Awards Committee. For his creativity and effort, this Play Hard Player of the Week plays for the Yerushalayim Blue Bears and his name is… Meir Retter.
• This player from the K’tana Boy’s Tsfat Black Cheetahs had a very nice game today. For his effort, hard play, and his goal, this Play Hard Player of the Week Award goes to… Yonaton Abrams.
• This player put forward and exceptional effort today. This player for the Boy’s K’tana K’tana Yerushalayim Blue Sharks is… Avi Warshawsky.
• This young man plays in the Boy’s K’tana K’tana League and has been playing well all season. With this said, he saved his best play for the play-offs. For his best effort of the season, this player from the Tsfat Black Cheetahs is winning a Play Hard Award. This player is… Eli Seemann.
• The final Play Hard Awards are going to two players from the K’tana K’tana Boy’s League. They both play for the Chevron Green Crocs and they both played a critical role in their team’s win today. The former player played very hard and scored a goal while the latter player played very hard and stopped the other team from scoring any goals. These players are… Binyamin Feldman and Yaakov Levine.

The “Play Smart” Players of the Week:
• This girl is a defender for the G’dola Girl’s Team and is one of the critical pieces of this talented girl’s squad. For her effort, for her athletic talent, and for her goal today, the first Play Smart Player of the Week Award goes to… Adina Wakschlag.
• This player from the Boy’s K’tana League plays for the Tsfat Black Cheetahs. He plays defense and he plays with his head. A player who today, and every game, played “very smart”. This Play Smart Player of the Week is… Naftali Simcha Swartz.
• These two players from the Boy’s G’dola League play for the Chevron Green Slime. Both players played solid games. The first player played goalie and forward and when he was playing goalie, he was unbeatable and when he played forward he created numerous offensive chances. The second player played all over the field and was just “a presence” the whole game. These Play Smart Players of the Week are… Dani Singer and Yitzchok Cohen.
• This player from the Boy’s K’tana League was described as playing extremely smart and playing some exceptional defense. The Hapoel Awards Committee awards this Play Smart Player of the Week to a young man who plays for the Yerushalayim Blue Bears and his name is… Benjamin Taragin.

The “Mensch” Players of the Week:
• The Mensch Player of the Week is going to a player from the Boy’s G’dola League who has been playing well and has had a great attitude all season. He could win the Mensch Award for this fact alone but… that’s not why he’s winning the award. He’s winning the award for a very simple reason. For the first half of his game today he was given the unenviable task of stopping the Chevron Green Slime from scoring. And, he did his job to perfection. In the second half of the game, he was asked to create goals for his team, the Tiveria Red Lions, and he did this beautifully as well. While he didn’t score a goal, he created numerous chances and had numerous dangerous shots on goal. For playing hard, playing smart, having a great attitude and work-ethic and… for “doing his job”, this week’s Mensch Player of the Week is… Nesanel Biberfeld, Tiveria Red Lions.

Hapoel Fall Soccer – 5765 (2004) – All-Mensch Game

Match Report:

In the world of soccer, there are many post-season match traditions. At the professional level, you have old-timers games. At the college level you have alumni games. And, at the Hapoel Soccer Club, you have the All-Mensch Game. The All-Mensch Game was a full-field, regulation sized-goals, 90-minute match. This year’s 5765 All-Mensch Game pitted Hapoel Blue vs. Hapoel White. Hapoel Blue was primarily composed of players and parents from the G’dola League Champion, Tsfat Black Cheetahs, and the G’dola League Runner-up, the Chevron Green Slime. Hapoel White was primarily composed of players and parents from the G’dola League’s Yerushalayim Blue Bears and Tiveria Red Lions.

Hapoel Blue scored early and often and finished the first half with a lead of 3-2. The offensive play for Hapoel Blue was spear-headed by league leading scorer, Jesse Wilcox, the league’s number two leading scorer, Noach Aryeh Schwartz, and Coach Tuchman. With this said, they had plenty of support from the wings from Coach Ifrah, Saadia Tuchman and Steven Elenberg. The defense for Hapoel Blue was also solid with top-notch performances from Coach Feldman, Coach Wilcox, Coach Galitzer, Coach Milgraum, Coach Kardon, Avraham Gershon Abrams, and Jason Kardon. With a defense as solid as this, Hapoel White was fortunate to create their two goals in the first half.

The second half of the game involved numerous substitutions and line-up changes. Hapoel White had a new defensive look with numerous players including Coach Elenberg, Coach Weiss, Coach Frankl, Coach Cohen, Rabbi Baars, and two rock-solid performances from two of the G’dola League’s top players: Danny Weiss (goalie) and Isaac Gould. This line-up did not give-up a goal to the Hapoel Blue attack for the entire second half. With this said, the most impressive aspect of the Hapoel White second half performance was their attack. Their offense gelled and the goals came pouring in. The final score after being down 3-2 at the half was 5-3 with Hapoel White scoring three unanswered goals. The Hapoel White offense was lead by Ari Wilcox, Jonathan Galitzer, and Dovid Feldman with excellent midfield support from Nisonel Biberfeld, Coach Abrams, and Ezra Feldman.

Hapoel Blue fought back hard and had many chances to equalize the game during the second half including numerous shots that just missed wide, shots that bounced off the post, and some gorgeous saves from the Hapoel White goalkeeper, Danny Weiss, but… the game ended with Hapoel White getting the win.

It bears mentioning that several “younger” players joined the match and, not so surprisingly, played beautifully. These players included Naftali Schwartz, Elli Feldman, Jeremy Kardon, Yonaton Abrams, Max Frankl, and Feivel Cohen.

The bottom-line, this was a hard-fought match which could have easily been a win for either team and… like most post-season traditional match-ups, the score was less relevant than having the chance to see the players from this past season (and their fathers and coaches) demonstrate their talent and efforts for one last time before the Hapoel End-of-Season Awards Banquet. Yasher Koach to all the players and fans involved and… see you next week at the Awards Banquet!

And, the Match Awards!

Play Hard Players of the Match:
Naftali Schwartz, Elli Feldman, Jeremy Kardon, Yonaton Abrams, Feivel Cohen, and Max Frankl. Despite being outsized by 95% of the players on the field, these boys not only “held their own”, but excelled. Their effort was superb.

Play Smart Players of the Match:
Danny Weiss. Despite the Hapoel White goalie playing in a goal that was substantial bigger than what he was used to, he performed beautifully. A top-notch peformance.
Isaac Gould. One of the anchors of the Hapoel White defense for the entire 90 minute game and pieced together his best performance of the entire season.
Coach Feldman. Demonstrated that a defender can get forward and get involved in the offense as well as play with finesse and skill. He was a pleasure to watch.
Coach Tuchman, Jesse Wilcox, Saadia Tuchman, and Noach Aryeh Schwartz. A powerful, creative offensive threat for Hapoel Blue that was a sincere pleasure to watch attack the Hapoel White goal.

Mensch Players of the Match:
Nisonel Biberfeld, Dovid Feldman, Ari Wilcox, Jonathan Galitzer, and Coach Abrams. Despite never having played together before, they had good offensive success in the first half and this Hapoel White five-some came together as a unit in the second half and created numerous gorgeous goals.
